Whatever may be your favorite activity for this visit, the first thing is simply to leave the busy city - depart from Quito on the Occidental Avenue some 1 km up from the Condado roundabout and shopping center, signs show the way - and immediately find yourself immersed in the incredible landscapes along this special road.

Birding is always productive along this road, that for many years was known as the (old) Nono-Mindo road. A bird list is given separately.

Nature discovery – anyone who loves nature, naturalist or specialist, will find so much to discover.

Educational trails for school groups at some reserves or lodges |

Waterfall wonders – with a great number of brooks and springs, and high rainfall at certain times of year, waterfalls can be found in many places near and along the route.

Horse-back riding: many reserves and lodges offer this fun activity.

 |
Mountain-biking – bikes soon for hire at Ecoroute info centers, as well as at some lodges. The road is a favorite destination for serious local mountain bikers.

Good food and comfortable lodging – stay a few nights at one of the comfortable lodges and discover more, or enjoy local specialties at one of the lodges or restaurants.

Access to such activities as canopy zipline and tubing and interesting archaeological sites.

Photography The landscapes of sweeping cloud forest, steep green-cloaked mountains plunging into the distance, and Volcano Pichincha… just for the amateur or professional landscape photographer, the possibilities are vast. Then the birds, often easy to see at feeders or around lodges, are just so colorful. And if we get down to the micro level, the infinite range of patterns on an insect´s wing, the play of light on dewdrops on moss … the limitless possible subjects for photography stimulate your creative eye!!
